Description jrdaparker 2008-06-23 18:17:37 UTC
The first time I press the save button, I receive the following message:

Error saving the document xxxxxx
Error creating object.
Could not create backup copy.
OK

If I click the OK button and then press the save button, it saves and everything
is fine.

I thought the problem was because OO was trying to save a backup copy somewhere
it did not have rights, so I created a directory and set OO to save there. This
didn't fix the issue.

It's not a big issue because I can save the 2nd time, but it's a little annoying.

This problem isn't happening for me (Intel, 10.5.3, DEV300_m21), and hasn't in any build. Which build
are you using? Are you on Intel or PPC, and which system are you using (10.4, 10.5 etc.)?

Please check our latest build (DEV300_m21):

ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/Dev_DEV300_m21/

and tell us if this problem continues. If it does, it might be a permission issue. If the problem occurs in
DEV300_m21, please repair permissions (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility). (This is a first-step in
troubleshooting, since many problems are permissions-related on UNIX/Linux systems.)

I'm inclined to mark this WORKSFORME, but I'll wait on user feedback.

I can't reproduce this issue on a Intel Mac with 10.5 Leopard. Please tell, wich
mac OS you have.

rbircher -> torwart

Do you can tast it on your mac, maybe, this issue is Tiger or PPC Only. Thanks!

Set Torwart and myself to cc

Hi,

I just installed DEV300_m21 and I still get the message:

Error saving the document nameofdocument by authorofdocument:
Error creating object.
Could not create backup copy.

I am running this on an Apple Mac Pro (2 x 2.66 Ghz Dual-core Intel Xeon
processors. OS is 10.5.3

I did some more testing, and I think the issue has to do with saving to the
network server because when I save to my local machine I don't get the error.

Another "odditity" that I noticed is that the first time I save a document on
the server, I get the error, but the error message does not contain the file
name of the file. But, a zero byte file is written out to the server.

If I try saving the file again, I get a message that the filename already exits
and do I want to replace it. If I click Replace, the file is saved, and I don't
get an error.

I tried closing the file, and then reopening it, and it comes up fine. But
after I modify the file and try to save, I get the error message again. Then,
when I hit save again, it saves fine. Weird, huh?

By the way, the application seems to run a bit slower then it used to. When I
start typing, it doesn't seem to come up on the screen as fast as it used to.

Framework issue.

Same here, saving for the first time on a share produces the error and then
saving again is ok. Does not happen for local files.

Also the delay while typing is present too, but only for the very first time I'm
going to type something on the document. Subsequent typing is ok.

Intel MacBook Pro, Leopard 10.5.4, OOo 3.0 Beta 2.
