Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 74450
General Input/Output Error.
Last modified: 2008-11-05 21:00:47 UTC
Hello, I'm running Open Office 2.0.3. When I open an existing file, modify it and save for the first time, there is no problem. However, when I modify it for the second time and try to save it, I receive an General Input/Output error and the file is not saved. This problem occurs only on an attempt to save in a network hard drive. On a local hard drive, all works fine. The network is running Novell Client 4, and workstations run Windows 2000 Professional. Thanks.
abraaocefas, for starters I strongly suggest upgrading at least to version 2.1, as it contains a number of improvements over 2.0.3. If 2.1 produces the same error I suggest trying version 2.2 (release candidate is expected this or next week, and if you feel brave enough you can try latest developer build from http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html).
I've installed the latest version of Open Office, but the problem remains. I was searching the web for a situation like this, but nothing for now. Thanks for the clue, anyway.
abraaocefas, let's see if somebody with Novell network can repro the problem. I assume that saving to Windows file-server works fine for you, right?
I have this same problem. I am running Open Office 2.2 on Windows XP Professional. When I open a new file (in any OO program, Writer, Base, Calc, etc.) and try to save it on a network hard drive, I get the following error: Error saving the document Untitled1: \\Home_w\users\USERS\Maren\something.odt does not exist. I then click OK and get: Error saving the document Untitled1: General Error. General input/output error. I click OK again and save it as another extension (like .doc or .xls), and it works fine. I can also save it on the C: drive just fine.
