Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 39378
Page down in Impress Normal view
Last modified: 2016-07-19 17:32:12 UTC
There is no shortcut as of yet to page down or up through your slides just like you can do by PowerPoint. I am used to either scroll using my mouse wheel or by paging up or down. Would be a great usability enhancement.
When the focus is on the slide sorter you can scroll through with the cursor keys. My scroll wheel functions under linux with no problems.
In PowerPoint, I find it very useful to be able to scroll down with the mouse wheel while I am working on the actual slide (not the slide sorter). I think this is very practical and will make the shift for PowerPoint users easier.
Reassinged.

(Matthew Bell, 9/11/08) I can produce part of the desired behavior on OOo-dev 3.0.0 (DEV300m29). Method: 1. Create an empty presentation. 2. Add some content to the first slide. (I used the text "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.") 3. Click the menu option Insert -> Slide. 4. Add some content to the second slide. (I added a rectangle.) 5. Make sure you're in the Normal tab. 6. Press Page Up. The view changes to the first slide. 7. Press Page Down. The view changes to the second slide. 8. Hover the mouse cursor over the slide. 9. Scroll the mouse wheel up and down. The current slide scrolls up and down, but the view does not switch to a different slide. 10. Hover the mouse cursor over the "Slides" pane on the left. 11. Scroll the mouse wheel up and down. The slide does not change. Machine information: Windows XP SP3 Athlon 64 X2, 2.1 GHz 2 GB RAM Also, issue 47203 (http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=47203) seems to refer to the same behavior.
Environment: Open Office 3.0 Beta Windows Vista 64-bit Notebook (scroll on side of touchpad) Procedure: 1. Open new blank Impress Presentation 2. Insert additional slides by going to Insert->Slide (I created 5 slides) 3. Change focus to slide 1 by clicking in the editable slide (not the Slide pane on the left) 4. Scroll with the touchpad 5. Use the pg down key and pg up key 6. Use the arrow keys Observations: When focus is on the editable slide: Using the scroll portion of my touchpad, only the current slide scrolls. In other words, it doesn't change slides. Using the pg up and pg down keys on my keyboard; however, does change between slides properly. Arrow keys scroll up, down, left, and right but do not change the active slide. When the focus is on the slide pane: Using the scroll portion of my touchpad scrolls the view, but does not change the active slide. Using the pg up and pg down keys on my keyboard changes the active slide. Arrow keys do nothing.
I too am able to replicate the behavior that the mouse wheel does not cycle through the slides, but I do not believe that this is considered a bug, but rather a feature. Although you may not be able to use page down / page up when the middle section (the section containing the slide) is selected, you are able to use these when the slide is selected on the left column.
Environment & Versions: Powerpoint MicrosoftOffice2010, and OpenOffice 4.1.1 running side by side on Windows XP SP3 Using Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz Reproduction steps: Using OOO Impress: 1. Open new slide presentation, using default settings 2. In addition to the slide that exists on start up, add 2 more slides 3. Add a little text to each slide to differentiate the slides during attempted scrolling 4. Put mouse over slide in central main "Normal" Tab 5. Scroll with scroll wheel - the slide moves up and down in the window but other slides do not come into the viewer 6. Use page up / page down arrows - the other slides in the slideshow come into the viewer 7. Use up/down,left/right arrows - the slide moves up, down, left, right in the window but other slides do not come into the viewer 8. Click and drag on the scroll-bar on the righthand side- the slide moves up and down in the window but other slides do not come into the viewer Using Powerpoint Steps 1,2,3,4 as above 5. Scroll with scroll wheel - the other slides in the slideshow come into the viewer 6. Use up and down arrows - the other slides in the slideshow come into the viewer 7. Use up/down,left/right arrows - the other slides in the slideshow come into the viewer 8. Click and drag on the scroll-bar on the righthand side- the other slides in the slideshow come into the viewer It seems to be related to: Issue 10931 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=10931
(Denilson Vargas, 7/19/2016) I would like to add some inputs regarding this behavior that is still happening with the official version available in the web 4.1.2 on Windows 10 x64: The current title does not reflect the current issue because the problem is related to pressing up/down arrow or moving mouse wheel up/down just move in the same slide and not between slides., these controls do not move to the next or previous slide like Office PowerPoint does. I also wanted to point out that this is a good feature that could be implemented so that end users can move directly between slides and not going to the slide sort section first. Note: The same behavior can be replicated in Notes view, so this is not an specific behavior of Normal view. Steps to recreate: 1. Create or open a presentation with multiple slides (at least 2) 2. Select Normal or Notes tab 3. Select a slide from Slides section (not the slide order section) 4. Using up and down arrow keys try to scroll up or scroll down to the next or previous slide 5. Move the mouse to the slides section and move the wheel up and down to scroll up or scroll down to the next or previous slide. Actual results: Pressing up/down arrow or moving mouse wheel up/down just move in the same slide and not between slides. Expected results: After pressing up/down arrow or move mouse wheel down/up should move the view between slides. Workaround: Use Pg up and Pg dn keys to navigate between slides. Follow up tests: - Test with ppt, pptx and odp. - Press the mouse wheel button and move the mouse to scroll. - Review the scenario if you select the slide in the left pane. - Review the scenario in the presentation mode - Review the scenario when the view is use Zoom like 25% or 200%
