Description netdragon 2004-02-02 03:21:09 UTC
Open Office 1.1.0 - Did as cgu suggested in bug 13656.

Expected result: 6 slides per page on printout.
Actual result: 1 slide per page in printout.

I tried all kinds of workarounds.

Microsoft Office performs this beahavior correctly and this will cause issues
for people migrating over from it.

Just in case you don't want to go look in bug 13656, let me show an excerpt:

I chose 6 slides per page.

Expected result: 6 slides per page printout.
Actual result: 1 slide per page printout.

I can't reproduce the bug.
Do you select Handout in the printer options? (File/Print/Options)
Comment 4 netdragon 2004-02-02 18:14:30 UTC
Ok, I see it now. That is not something that's very easy for a new user of your
Presentation Software to figure out.

The printout should follow from the view. If you have Master > Handout as your
view, the printout should appear identical to what you see on the screen, or at
least something more obvious should be presented.

I think this is a nice Impress featur.

Use the current view as preselection in the 'File/Print' dialog.
Maybe with a button 'Use current view / Use options settings'

What do you think?
Please have a look.

The problem is, that the "printing as handouts" has to be set in the printing
options dialog. This is not intuitive. When in handout view, printing should
automatically be as handout.

I believe your issue may be fixed with:
Issue 85355 - Enhance handout printing in impress

- available in the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):
http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/

Please consider testing this new release and report back the outcome so this
Issue may be Closed or Progressed as necessary.

Many thanks,
Andrew

Although this is 1.5 years old, the issue is still present in latest OOo 3.2.0
(Build 9479), at least on MacOSX.

The selected layout in the handout view has no effect on the actual printout.

OOo always prints 6 slides on one pages, either as 2x3 (rows x columns) or 3x2,
depending on the page orientation selected in the format -> page menu (note: I
am guessing the English menu and option titles, as I am using the German
language version).

The OOo handbook (accessible via the help menu) suggests to change the number of
slides in the printer settings dialog. While I can choose between slides,
notes, handouts etc, this dialog has *no* control to enter the number of slides
per handout page. According to the documentation, it should have one.

The documentation at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOo3_User_Guides/Impress_Guide/Creating_handouts
also shows a control to set the number of slides, which does not exist in OOo
3.2.0 on MacOSX.

As result, on MacOSX, it is impossible to print any other handout layouts except
2x3 or 3x2 slides per page.

There is a related (German) discussion here
http://de.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=88176 without solution

If you need further information, or if I should tryout something, let me know.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
