Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 10601
Print File... counter-intuitive
Last modified: 2003-03-11 17:56:52 UTC
Tested in PC with Linux / Windows 2000 but I guess that it the same problem on all platforms/OSes. Applications: Writer, Impress, Calc Reproductible steps: File -> Print... On the "Print" dialog, check the "Print to file" box. A "Save As" dialog box pops-up, click on the "Cancel", you come back to the "Print" dialog with the "Print to file" checkbox check but the "Ok" dialog greyed. It's seems that from there you can only cancel the all operation. However if by chance you click again on "Print to file" the "Ok" button becomes available. The issues: I found the all process very counter-intuitive: - A checkbox should NEVER open a dialog. Buttons and Menus are here for that; - The opened dailog should have a title like "Print to file" and not "Save As"; - The dialog should pop-up only when clicking the "Ok" button on the "Print" dialog.
changing ownership to user experience team for evaluation In general, I agree that this dialog is terrible in terms of user experience ...
I agree. In former times (version 4.0) checking the checkbox "print to file" had to be confirmed with "OK", before a dialog popped up for giving a save-path. It had worked as expected.
This is a strange behavior that we will change for the next major version.
