I don't believe this was always the case, but it's possible we never saw it
until now.  In 3.0 and DEV300M40 if you start swriter as root, all other user
accounts on the same computer cannot launch OpenOffice.  It behaves as if the
users had crashed documents and puts them into a loop.  As soon as you close the
root session, it works fine.

One uses the root account to install global, server-wide extensions.
