Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98800
Toolbar icons for Enhanced Language Support can not be selectively removed.
Last modified: 2013-05-03 11:46:40 UTC
When enhanced language support (ELS) is activated for either Asian languages or Complex Text Layout (CTL), the toolbar icons for text direction (i.e. right to left; top to bottom, etc.) cannot be selectively removed by activating/deactivating their corresponding checkboxes. The only way to remove them is either by turning (ELS) off or by deleting the icon entry entirely from Commands List under Toolbar Content. Problem reproduction steps: 1) In Calc, activate ELS (Options > Language Settings > Languages) by selecting the checkboxes enabling support for Asian and/or CCTL (complex text layout) languages. 2) Customize the Format toolbar in Calc to include the four icons for alternative text direction (right to left [text], left to right [text], , right to left [paragraph], top to bottom [paragraph]) 3) Try to remove the appearance of the icons by deactivating the corresponding checkbox. They don't budge!

Why unconfirmed? Hmm... perhaps this is only happening in the German Build? Please see screenshot from OOO310m19 (Build 9420)
It is impossible remove icons Left-To-Right and Right-To-Left. Icons Text direction from left to right and Text direction from top to bottom can not become visible in toolbar. Rev. 1476029 Win 7
