Description Unknown 2002-12-02 05:01:51 UTC
making a PDF having opensymbol char will fail.
The Acrobat Reader (And surely the othersPDF viewer too)
will replace all the Opensymbol char by a square.
The same happens when printing formula w/ vectors, the
vector wont show up in the PDF.

I think this issue also happens when printing to a PS
file.

PL. let me know if you're in trouble to reproduce
this issue.

Possibly linked to Issue #4516. Please let me check that first before
someone investigates this issue more in detail. I'll post the results
in a few hours.

Doesnt seem related to Issue #4516 because

1. the proposed work around of issue $4516 (uninstalling-reinstalling
OpenSymbol) doesnt do anything for this PDF issue.
2. The problem is still in the build 643C when using the true Adobe
PDF driver, not the embedded PDF driver.

cp->mklein: Does OpenSymbol work in other applications (dtpad?) ?

cp->ssa: Adobe pdf printer driver is one of your Lieblingsbaustellen,
isn't it ? any ideas about this one ?

In Wordpad I got the following results:

Under XP:

- if I select the OpenSymbol Font and type normal chars
as 'qwerty' then everything is fine, both at screen and in the PDF.
- if I open the 'Character Map' of Windows I can select and past into
the Wordpad document some special characters as mathematical symbols.
In this case the characters will be displayed at the screen but will
appear as square once printed in a PDF. (PDFWriter 5, PDFreader 5.0
and 4.0)
- Noticed the same behavior for other fonts as the 'Narkisim' font.

Under WInNT 4:

- Litteraly all the chars of OpenSymbol are displayed as squares,
whatever I tape or copy and paste from the char map, both at screen
and in PDF. WInNT4 is supposed to handle correctly this kind of font.
The Character Map shows me all the subset of this font. Note that
most of the subsets also appear as square.

Seems to be dependent on #i6815. The OpenSymbol font also shows
problms on UNIX so it's a genral issue with the structure of that
font.
Comment 8 stephan_schaefer 2003-01-22 14:30:49 UTC
Please have a look at OpenSymbol.

Double to issue 6815?
Comment 10 hdu@apache.org 2003-01-27 09:07:58 UTC
HDU->IH: Please don't use Fontographer anymore, because this causes
all the trouble. PfaEdit@sourceforge.net is hopefully better.
Comment 11 nospam 2003-01-27 14:01:32 UTC
IH: I will try to fix the CMAP tables with PfaEdit.
