Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 9723
Update isocodes.txt to include Esperanto
Last modified: 2003-02-18 17:17:06 UTC
Nils, Please update isocodes.txt to include Esperanto. Language Name(English) Language Name(French) 639-2 639-1 Esperanto espéranto epo eo I believe we need to add the following: LANGUAGE_ESPERANTO "eo-EO" Thanks, Joey
ISO 639 - "Code for the representation of names of languages" contains Esperanto but ISO 3166 - "Codes for the representation of names of countries" does not since Esperanto is a language.
> ISO 3166 - "Codes for the representation of > names of countries" does not since Esperanto is a language. This is correct. The language tag must be just 'eo'.
I have added esperanto as currently unsupported by the OOo ressource system. I'm not sure if we can add esperanto support that easy, because there are different dependencies to internal representations which depend on another well known non open sourced office application, wherin such representation is not existent for esperanto (as far as I know). If we ignore this dependencies, we potentially loose some filtzer functionality.
Nils, Can you be more specific about the non-OO dependancies? I can go hunt them down for you. The last time I went through the code, it appeared that the ISOCODES.TXT file was the only place other than the normal files for localization that needed tweaking. We are using UTF-8 so it should be compliant with the rest of the system. I'm worried that without the entry in ISOCODES, the subsystem would not be able to process Esperanto as a language. I supose we could try it to do the work without updating isocodes, but I don't want my translation team to do all that work for nothing. I'm sure you can understand. Is there a way we can test this? Thanks! Joey
The obstacles are described in issue 11530. Btw: It seems that isocodes.txt is YAOL (Yet Another Outdated List) and isn't used anywhere. The real mapping takes place in tools/source/intntl/isolang.cxx http://util.openoffice.org/source/browse/util/tools/source/intntl/isolang.cxx I think we can close this issue if we record Esperanto in issue 11530, objections anyone?
