Description cforbesaus 2008-08-07 12:37:16 UTC
I set up a simple table in Impress 3 Beta 2, with text in the table. It seemed
to work fine. This evening I opened the same file on the same computer, again
using v3.beta2 , and most of the text in the table didn't seem to be there. I
opened the same file in 2.4.1, and the text was all there. It had clearly been
saved, but v3.beta2 wasn't displaying it.
I went back into v3.beta 2, loaded the file and exported to .ppt. The text
was still missing. I loaded the file in 2.4.1 and exported to .ppt: no problem,
there it all was. Weird, huh? I can submit the file for others to experiment
with, but I can't see a link on this page to do that. I presume that will happen
once the "issue" is registered.

Reproducible on XP, too. I assume that this has been an OLE in former times, now
the table is a metafile. In 2.4.1 I have complete text ob slide 2 and text in
three cells on slide 1.
Current m29 shows text only on slide 2 at the top and at the bottom.

2.x shows the correct table because since 2.x does not know about the new
tables, OOo 3.x saves a picture of the table along with the contents of the table.

Now the picture shows that there actually was text in most of the cells during
saving the document, but the actual xml file does not contain any text in those
empty cells. They must have been ignored while saving the document in OOo 3.0.

From the bugdoc I can not see how this error has occurred.

cforbesaus, can you tell something about how you created this table before you
saved it? Did you use the clipboard or did you just enter the text? Did you save
directly after you entered the text or did you load the document again and then
saved?

Dear cl,
     you asked,
"cforbesaus, can you tell something about how you created this table before you
saved it? Did you use the clipboard or did you just enter the text? Did you save
directly after you entered the text or did you load the document again and then
saved?"

I started with a blank presentation, and created the table using the drop-down
tool in the toolbar; I think I created it with 2 columns and about 10 rows. Then
I changed the table properties to make it all plain white background. Then I
copied-and-pasted the text from a Writer document. I think I used Paste Special
Unformatted Text, but I'm not sure. I put in several blocks of text and fiddled
with their formatting a bit, saving occasionally. Everything was fine until I
closed the file and went away and did something else for a while. When I opened
the file again the text had vanished. I hope this helps.

I have encounterd exactly the same problem. I lost my table data after saving
and reloading. I have tried again. That is, I entered data in the table again,
but after saving and reloading, the data is gone...........
PDF export before the saving is fine.
I think this is a serious problem since data loss causes critical situation.

Oh... my Impress version is 3.0 RC1.
Comment 8 clippka 2008-09-16 16:33:48 UTC
I also had seen this error once on my machine. Unfortunately I can not reproduce
it. It would help me a great deal to fix this issue if someone can give me a
step by step instruction how to create this data loss (the less steps the better).

The given bugdocs confirm me that we indeed have such a bug but they do not help
me to find the problem since the data is already lost.

I suspect it has something to do with editing a table and then saving the
document without leaving the text edit mode. But looks like it is not that simple...

I've noticed this problem too...
two times : one with Ubuntu 8.04 32bit and one with Ubuntu 8.04 amd64.
Both with OOO300 m5...
Both with a "fresh" OOo doc (drawing).
Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this defect (When I've tried to re-create a
similar doc, everything was OK...)
Hopping someone would be able to find the origin of this bug before the stable
release...

I find a way to reproduce the problem :
1 Open a new blank drawing or presentation.
2 Insert a new table (with the menu, or the toolbox)
3 write some text in cases (not all the cases)
4 save the doc
5 add text in blank cases
6 save and close

When you reopen the doc, the text of step 3 has disappear...

Yupp, this is it. I can reproduce , too. Thank you very much!!
Comment 13 wolframgarten 2008-09-24 15:22:10 UTC
Target reset.
Comment 14 clippka 2008-10-21 14:47:59 UTC
fixed in cws impress163 for OOo 3.0.1

after save the cell text api implementation for each empty cell had a selection
of 0,0 -> 0,0. This didn't change even after text was edited in the cell. I now
changed svx/source/tabe/cell.cxx to enforce recalculation of the selection as
soon as the para outliner object changes.
