Description Unknown 2002-11-12 12:46:35 UTC
When I try to print a file you can find at
http://aufbix.org/~mike/thegimp.abc.sxw to .ps or .pdf I get overlapping text
on some of the pages.

This is the output: http://aufbix.org/~mike/thegimp.abc.sxw.ps.bz2 and
http://aufbix.org/~mike/thegimp.abc.sxw.pdf.bz2

OS is Debian GNU/Linux 3.0, GS is 6.53 and glibc is 2.2.5
Comment 1 kandew 2002-11-12 23:59:15 UTC
Confirmed SuSE8.0, OOo 1.0.1. The overlapping text is apparent on
pages 4, 5, 7, and 8.
Unable to recreate the issue on OOo 643.

Changed to worksforme (643).

----------- Email from Miha -------------------
Please can you explain me what and how is resolved (resolved
worksforme - I don't know the lingo). Because I just tried the
printing to .ps filewith 643 and the problem is still there not as
obvious, but still visible.

The problem is that some of the text get overlayed on some pages.
Theprobme is that first bitmapped version of text is layered and
then the vectorised version. I must admit that in 643 the two layers
are much more consistent, but with gv and a slow machine one can
still see how page builds slowly.

There is another problem with 643 that som eof the images dont get
displayed or just partially so. Thanks and take care,
        Miha...
---------------
Miha,
Thank you for your email. I am unable to recreate the issues you
are observing, but I have reopened the issue changing the version to
643.
Specifically, I recreated the font overlay problem in 1.0.1, for
example, on page 4 in the paragraph containing graphic20 and
graphic21.
I can not recreate that problem in the postscript file printed on
643, either viewing that page in gv, or printing it from gv. My
platform is SuSE8.0, GS 6.53, glibc 2.25. 384RAM/667CPU

Can you provide more exact details on where you see the issue? Page
numbers, paragraphs, line numbers, graphic#, etc.. What images are
not being displayed properly?
What "slow machine" are you using (RAM, CPU)? Thanks, Liz

***************email from Miha***************
Hello Liz!

Sorry for late reply.

I am looking at the .ps printed from 643 and on page 2 the leftmost
picture is missing and at the bottom of the page the last bullet
item is missing. But if I use a larger magnifying scale the picture
and lost item pop up on the display. So the images are there. Maybe
gv is foo too. My gv version is 3.5.8 (debian).

The page 4 (in my .ps it's actually page 3, because numbering starts
with 0) has a problem of double layered text. And a funny thing is
that it's exactly the thing xpdf will display.

Let me start from the beginning. I convert .ps (from 643) to pdf
with ps2pdf (ps2pdf1.2, 1.3 or 1.4 - part of the GS). xpdf (version
1.0) can't display type 3 fonts, so the only thing it can display
are bitmaps. It means all the graphics are at their correct
positions, but also some portions of bitmapped text (second text
layer that I am having trouble with).

This is visible on left side of page 4, the whole page 5, the bottom
middle of page 7 and top middle of page 8.

It is in the exact same places that it's in the .ps from 1.0.1 just
the offset is a bit worse in 1.0.1.

About the slow machine (I guess it's not the real issue) It's
Celeron 450, 384MB of RAM - it's enough.

Thanks and take care,
Miha...

PS I hope I am not being too much of a wiseguy here. I would just
like to explain what I see. Maybe I can do something more to make
OOo the best office program there is.
********************************************

Hi Miha, can you attach (another) example printed from version 643?
Just page 4 (page 3 in gv) if you think it provides the best example
of the issues you describe. A single page example will be easier to
test on and pin down the problem.
You are definitely not being too much of a wiseguy! You're time and
input is very much appreciated. Thanks, Liz.

P.S. Can you please enter your comments here, so they are tracked in
the database? Again, thanks. -Liz

Here is the page 4 http://aufbix.org/~mike/Gimp4.ps. I also made a
separation of bitmaped layer and vector layer.
http://aufbix.org/~mike/Gimp4-vector.ps
http://aufbix.org/~mike/Gimp4-bitmap.ps

Well the bitmap layer should only include the pics.

I also added the bitmaped version which has all the clippings
removed. http://aufbix.org/~mike/Gimp4-bitmap-noclip.ps My gv has
less trouble dispalying all the images without using the magnify
option.

I removed the bitmap chunks that include text but I also lost some
of the small images. Clippings are removed and the result is at
http://aufbix.org/~mike/Gimp4-bitmap-notext.ps

Hope it helps.
