Description Unknown 2002-11-06 20:25:20 UTC
When I save a document that contains bullets in MS Word 6 or MS Word 95 format,
and reopen the document, the bullets display as question marks. I am using
OpenOffice.org version 1.0.1 running on Windows XP Home (Build 2600).
Comment 1 brant 2002-11-08 01:27:12 UTC
I can confirm this issue, but it belongs in the word processor
product. On my system, I get the open box character used when there
is no glyph for that character. Confirmed on 643 on WinXP.
Comment 2 prgmgr 2002-11-12 01:17:39 UTC
Duplicated on Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OOo 643 with WinWord conversion turned
on.

This bug should have been resolved as mentioned in issue 1987.
Comment 3 michael.ruess 2002-11-14 08:47:22 UTC
No, it is not the same problem as issue 1987. There we have the
bullets saved in Word97 format, here it is saved in Word95 format.

Reassigned to Michael.
Comment 5 michael.ruess 2002-11-14 12:00:54 UTC
mru->cmc: It looks like the [Star|Open]Symbol font is not converted to
MS's fonts when saving in WW6/95 format.
Comment 6 caolanm 2002-11-14 13:42:08 UTC
cmc->aidan: Yeah, ww8 logic for starsymbol to multifont needs to be
implemented for ww6/7 as well.
Comment 7 caolanm 2002-11-18 10:09:04 UTC
cmc->aidan: I'll assign this outright to you as you are working on it.
Comment 8 caolanm 2002-11-18 10:18:40 UTC
trying again
Comment 9 aidan.butler 2002-11-18 10:22:02 UTC
aidan: Starting this issue
Comment 10 caolanm 2002-11-20 17:07:42 UTC
Fix checked in. Available with SRX644o probably.

Isn't this the same as <a
href="http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3807">issue
3807</a>?

Is there any temporary user-end workaround for this? I am on the verge
of losing a number of OO converts because of this interoperability
problem.

I tried it with 643C, which is reported to have some sort of temporary
fix for the bullets problem (save in font symbol for export?), but
then the bullet points come out as all question marks, both in OO and
MSWord--both under Linux (Word running from WINE) and under MS Windows.

Aidan->MRU:
This has been fixed in SRX644s. Reassigning to you for verification
Comment 13 michael.ruess 2002-12-17 16:24:43 UTC
Aidan,
when exporting bullets to Word, the different bullet types are all
converted to one and the same character. Take my attached file for
confirming the problem.

Comment 15 aidan.butler 2002-12-17 16:34:59 UTC
AB->mru
Just checked this with SRX644s, and it works fine. Are you using a
build after SRX644o? This should be in the next OOo release.
Comment 16 aidan.butler 2003-01-30 15:36:37 UTC
Aidan->Mru: This has been fixed and is available for testing in the
datev1 workspace. To test, open the attachment in OOo, save to
msoffice95 and open in MSOffice. The supported bullets will be the
same and the unsupported bullets will be substituted with wingdings.

Comment 17 michael.ruess 2003-02-04 15:27:15 UTC
Yes, looks much better now in workspace.
Comment 18 michael.ruess 2003-02-04 15:27:41 UTC
Fix will be available in OpenOffice 1.1 Beta.
Comment 19 michael.ruess 2003-02-22 13:47:07 UTC
Checked integration with internal Milestone srx644m4s3
