Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 8850
Embed TrueType outlines in PS/PDF output
Last modified: 2004-07-03 15:24:52 UTC
Using TrueType fonts in a OO document, the generic PS driver will not embed the TT fonts as Type 42 fonts in the PS output. Ghostscript ps2pdf will embed use Type 3 bitmap fonts in the PDFG output. This will display poorly with the Acrobat reader and other PS devices, not to mention the size of the resulting file. Is there a better PS driver already in the works. This is a very important issue for the usability of OO. More and more, "printing" actually means generating high quality PDF output.
Just choose another driver: pavel@SnowWhite:/tmp/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/share/psprint/driver> grep -l Type42 * Those files support Type42 inclusion...
In case someone else comes to this page with the same question I had. Indeed, OO psprint is capable of embeding TrueType / Type42 fonts. However, when generating PS output for Ghostscript use the "Acrobat Distiller 3.0" driver, as some of the printer specific drivers break gs. For PDF output, "Acrobat Distiller 3.0" is also the best choice. I used GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for these tests.
issues@printing -> issues@gsl
reassign
transition from printing to gsl
There is a special PPD for this now (Generic T42 enabled)
Not yet reopening issue. May I ask why the type42-enabled one is not the default PPD for creating a PDF-Converter?
