Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 84445
"i" will be auto-capitalized even if it's not the personal pronoun
Last modified: 2009-07-29 15:27:06 UTC
When I'm writing and I put in parens "i.e.", the 'i' in i.e. is automatically capitalized. Example: I like electronics (i.e. VCRs). Comes out: I like electronics (I.e. VCRs). This is incorrect behavior. Please address it in an upcoming release.
Reassigned to SBA.
I checked with "2.3.1 Multilingual German version WIN XP: [680m9(Build9238)]" and can confirm the effect, if language "English" is selected for the text. OOo will replace a single "i" by "I", because it "believes" that the "i" is a wrong spelling of the personal pronoun "I". No Idea how that can be eliminated without a complex grammar checker. @bgelb: Please contribute information concerning OOo localization and document language! I believe document language is English? Due to my comments you can eliminate the problem by deleting the replace function for "i" -> "I" in menu "Tools -> AutoCorrect... -> Replace".
This is desired. However, expressions like "i.e." will be corrected after entering space character after "e.". If you do not like this in general, delete it from the Autocorrect list.
