Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 8044
text, especially large, italic, bold, albany, extends outside the text box
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:21:02 UTC
Large (96pt) italic bold albany font extends outside the text box ("Fit to width", and on Laser effect animation. This is even more pronounced using the SunSans-Demi font. Some chacraters are more pronounced than others - a "w" is a good example. Create a text box with a "w". set to 96pt bold italic Albany or SunSans Demi Looks fine. Now drag the text box - not that it leaves a bit of the "W" behind and doesn't repair the moved text box. Create a string with "mwmwmw" in it, and set to animate with text effect Laser and veritical drop in. Not that during the animation incomplete characters are moved which looks real strange to the audience.
Jonathan, thank you for using and supporting OOo. Duplicate on RH 8.0, OOo 643. Clipping issues with large fonts during the slide show presentation. When the fonts are animated using the laser effect, individual letters are cut off on the edges.

I can reproduce the bug. It occures on all OS more or less.

will be adressed with a rewrite of the presentation engine
thorsten, one for you
I'm actually not so sure whether an engine rewrite will fix this. I could imagine that, as this only happens for italic fonts, the real culprit are wrong text bounding boxes. There is a notable difference between nominal character bounds, and the bounding box for the 'ink'. The former is used for placing one character besides the other, the latter is the true bounding box of the glyph polypolygon. Thus, CL, will try what the rewrite gives us here, but be prepared that this one might bounce back to you ;-)
