Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 79761
"i.e." and "e.g." should not trigger AutoCorrection (Capitalisation of first letter of sentence)
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:42:49 UTC
if you write i.e. (havn't checked e.g.) in a sentence autocorrect thinks a new sentence has begun and therefore capitalises the first letter in the sentence, when it is not necessary.
Can confirm this. Reassigned to SBA.
SBA: To "control" the AutoCorrect feature "capitalize first letter of sentence", the abbreviations must be listed in the exception list. By default, "i.e." and "e.g." are not in this list for English (neither US nor UK). The Workarounds are very easy: (1) - Tools-AutoCorrect -> Tab "Exceptions" - Ensure that the right language (i.e. English(US)) is selected in the list box on top. - In the edit field fpr Abbreviations, enter "i.e." (without quotation marks) - Click "NEW" button - Click "OK" Button (2) By default, the "Auto include" check boxes in that dialog are checked. If this is the case, the lists for "Abbreviations" and "TWo INitial CApitals" will get the respective string if you "Undo" the AutoCorrection as soon as it took place: - Type "This is i.e. the " (including the space) (then the AutoCapitalisation [the -> The] takes place.) - Click Undo (or type <Ctrl>+Z or via menu Edit-Undo) -> The AutoCapitalisation is taken back [The -> the] AND -> "i.e." is now in the abbreviation list (for the language currently set in the document). This is not a defect, but an enhancement. -> Changed issue type and issue summary accordingly. SBA->VA: Please include "i.e." and "e.g." in AutoCorrect exception list for English (US and UK). Ibelieve this can be done for OOo 2.4 -> set target Reassigned to Volker.

But does the capitalization of the word 'I' still happen? I am using OO 3.2.0 And I constantly have to trick the mechanism to get the correct i.e. It always wants to capitalize the word 'i'.
