Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 79320
Sum button (Σ) turns to cancel
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
When I press the sum() button (sigma), then it turns to X (cancel) In my humble opinion it should turn to "V" (accept), so when you want to sum some cells, all you have to do is to double click the sum symbol (Σ) and there you are: you have immediately the result. Now, as it is, you must click on Σ and then move the mouse to V and click on it, to have the result. Thank you for the great job you do!!!!
Hi, Thanks for your issue. You can help us making OOo better! I like your issue very much! Therefore i will confirm. To reproduce: Click Sum Button (Σ) (in your formula-bar) Notice that you get two buttons, the cancel and the accept. Also notice that you have to move your mouse aprox half an inch to click the accept. Switching the cancel and the accept would make life just a bit easier...
Hi, not a defect but maybe an enhancement request. Let's requirements team decide. IMHO it's Ok as is because a simple double click mostly isn't what you want as you may want to drag a selection and a nervous finger may interrupt this just before starting the selection. Frank
Hi Frank, I must express my opposition to your comments. I noticed that Sum function is pretty smart to select the right cells after the first click. If this not what I want, I can always change your mind before clicking for the second time. For someone like me, where the summing of cells is quite frequent, the double click will save some of my time. Now, if someone's finger is nervous, then this won't be the only time he/she has a problem. In this case, he/she can increase the time of double clicking. thank you again all, for taking the time for this issue. Forgive me if my English is not fluent, it is not my mother language.
FL: Personally I think this is a valid issue. We should not break the workflow in this case. The only concern I have is that some users might used to the current behavior. So we need a Beta to gain feedback if we change this behavior. Furthermore we have to consider #i60408# which may cause further changes to the Sum button behavior, because some new Calc users do not find the Sum button at all.
