Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 77955
"Insert->Sheet From File...": Default name should be based on file name.
Last modified: 2014-01-05 15:22:54 UTC
The process for "Insert->Sheet From File..." could be improved: The default name of the new sheet should be based on the file name instead of "Sheet1". (Moved here from Issue 77760.)
reassigning features and enhancements to user requirements@openoffice.org which will be the default owner for those tasks (was introduced some time ago)
The use of the inserted file name as sheet name could be optional as the mockups of issue 92520 show. http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/55601/92520_before_insert.jpg http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/55602/92520_after_insert.jpg

es, I would prefer that Issue 77953 be fixed (along with this one) and the sheet name were editable in the import dialog. Then there would be no reason to have an additional option--the name would be set to the file name by default, which in any case makes more sense than the arbitrary "Sheet 1", and the user could edit it to whatever she prefers--even "Sheet 1" if she is so inclined... Could someone promote this issue to "CONFIRMED"?
If the existing sheets are not based on file name, why a new sheet should?
Edwin, imported sheets can only have a name if the imported format is a spreadsheet. I should have mentioned this in my orginial post: This bug is mostly about importing non-spreadsheet formats, in particular CSVs. They cannot have a sheet name in the imported file and OOo currently assigns them the meaningless name "Sheet1" (or presumably some other number if 1 already exists). The file name (w/o the suffix) would be a much better choice.
Thanks for clarifying. Good suggestion.
