Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 75259
Provide a choice whether to underline spaces between words
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:39:57 UTC
Provide a choice whether to underline spaces between words. If we place the cursor inside a word and press CTRL+U, the underline extends beyond the word, and covers the space that follows it. This looks very odd. Please change the default to suppress the underline in spaces. But when it comes to underlining a complete sentence (or part of a sentence), it is more natural to draw a continuous underline for the entire length. Only some people may prefer to underline only the words, and NOT the spaces. To cater to both tastes, please provide another option so that when multiple words are selected, the user can select between (a) continuous (the default choice), and (b) underline is applied word-by-word (i.e., not shown for spaces)
In Format.Character dialog, you have the option "Individual words". Is this, what you are looking for?
No that is for applying it to the selected text on one-time basis. What I am suggesting should come in the program options.

Ah, I understand... a new (selectable) default behavior for underlining the spaces between words is desired. Regarding the problem that punctuation marks are also underlined when pressing Ctrl-U, please file a seperate issue.
Thanks. Issue 75319 raised.
