Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 73836
Powerpoint's "AutoFit Text" Feature is Desirable
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:08:51 UTC
Powerpoint has a feature that automatically adjusts the font-sizes and line-spacing of text within a "outline" when it otherwise fall off the bottom of the text frame. This adjusting is progressive -- the more bullets added to the outline, the more the fonts and line spacings are manipulated to allow the text to fit. I believe Powerpoint calls this feature "AutoFit Text To Placeholder". There appears to be no built-in way to recreate this behavior in a OO presentation. In OO, the line spacing can be modified manually by changing the "Line spacing" to "Proportional" and then providing some percentage less than 100%. But this doesn't affect font-sizes. The other OO option is to force the text to "Fit To Frame", but this ends up resizing the text as if it were a graphic -- which makes all the text and fonts deformed. I consider this feature to be very desirable.
Reassigned.
the oasis tc has integrated attribute "draw:shrink-to-fit" to support this feature in ODF 1.1. I will take over this issue to implement that feature in OOo
Whoever you are, cl, thanks very much! This has been a problem for me with OOo for some time. My normal workflow with presentations is to develop the presentation in OOo, sometimes manually adjusting fonts to get things to fit, until I get close to finished. For long presentations, the workload of continually adjusting the font sizes can become burdensome. At that point, I switch to PowerPoint, remove all the manually-set font sizes, and start using autofit. Unfortunately, this means I can't take that same document back to OOo, since it will mangle the font sizes thereafter. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Should not this be considered a duplicate of #12533 ? It seems so.
this feature has been implemented in Go-OO 3.1. any chance to have the code merged upstream ?
