Description meirab 2006-11-07 00:09:38 UTC
and not even being able to import the .doc file.

the second problem is it gets stuck - and i must use "task manager" to abort
process.

for example: i used www.zamzar.com to change a long .pdf into .doc (the file is:

http://www.zeroc.com/download/Ice/3.1/Ice-3.1.1.pdf

it is a long manual and i converted it to: .doc and try to read it with writer.

try it yourself and see what hapends?

I checked with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" and can
confirm the problem. When I tried to open the file created via 'www.zamzar.com'
(what is a RTF, not a WORD document), my PC (Athlon 3200+, 1GB RAM) was able to
open the document (41 MB with app. 1700 pages) within app. 5 Minutes, but I was
not able to edit it because all system resources were depleted.

WORD2000 opened the document without bigger problems.

For your own tests you can download the RTF document as a 4MB ZIP from

The problem remained after I saved the document as WORD2000 .DOC file with WORD
2000. I can not decide whether it's only the size of the document, that causes
the problems - may be there also are several code mistakes in the document.

MRU->OD: it is quit annoying to edit the document after opening - even when the
(idle) formatting has finished. Writer will take 110 MB memory and use a lot of
th CPU time.
Entering text will take place as a picture show ;-)
The RTF consiss of MANY frames.
