Impress PDF-Export like Latex Beamer
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:43:05 UTC
Hello, Latex Beamer (http://latex-beamer.sourceforge.net/) makes nice PDF-presentations. You can see the changes from slide to slide and there is a small menu at the bottom of the slides... That would be wonderful if IMPRESS also could create this "Look-A-Like"-Presentations. Greetings! (Thanx for the great job!)
Reassigned.
Not sure, but I think you want the same feature as I do :) I would LOVE a pdf export creating several pages to emulate animations. I could hardly care less about the animation itself, but it should be possible to create a different page for each "step". Most of the time I do my presentations on another computer, either windows or mac, with different fonts installed, the pdf export is thus a life-saver, but I like to unhide some stuff to guide explanations, which is not yet possible (not even using the swf export). About the links that beamer puts at the bottom of the page, I sometime find them annoying, but if you want the same think, OOo can already most of it: just edit your layout, add objects where you want them and put an "interaction" on them. It can not go the the start of the section or to the next one, as impress knows nothing about "sections" which is another problem.
Please give a detailed description of the missing features. Make screenshots or drawings to explain your feature request. If you don't provide this information nobody is able to think about a way to implement the functions.
OK, some more detail: OOo impress can create animations, i.e. presentations pages which content changes over time (often triggered by click or timeout). When exporting such a page to PDF, OOo creates a single PDF page without the animations. The created page may even not ever be visible in the actual presentation as performed in OOo. On the other hand, beamer allows the creation of "animations" in PDF by creating several PDF pages for the same presentation page. Each PDF page shows a different step in the animation (before or after an effect: showing, hiding or moving objects). Beamer doesn't support smooth moving of objects like OOo (unless you are willing to create by hand all of the required steps) but at least the PDF file can be used for the most common (or simple) animations available in OOo. An animated page can be seen as such: * initial state * first (set of) animation * second state * second set of animations * third state * ... * final state In the current PDF export, an animated page is exported as a single PDF page, corresponding to the page as it can be seen in the slide designer (which may or may not correspond to any state visible in the presentation itself). In a "beamer-like" PDF export, an animated page would be exported as several PDF pages, corresponding to each or the intermediate states (the so called "initial state", "second state", ... "final state"). I'm not sure of the level of detail required for the implementation of such a feature, feel free to ask for more. I can provide examples of beamer-generated PDF files, but many examples are available on the web already, at least on the beamer website: http://latex-beamer.sourceforge.net Best regards
@nemoresus: thanks for your additional input. Now it is clear for me that this is not an issue of the presentation modul itself. It is an issue of the current pdf export related to presentations. I change the component to gsl and set the OOo version to 2.0. The pdf export was not implemented in OOo 1.0 (feature of 1.1).
2.x is end of life, so I will change the target to 3.x
Hi, The extension ExpandAnimations supports PDF-Export like Latex Beamer with "appear" and "disappear" animations (see http://github.com/downloads/monperrus/ExpandAnimations/ExpandAnimations-latest.oxt). Regards, --Martin
