Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 66053
Can't import MS Word 9.0 document
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:17:43 UTC
Ooo hangs when opening a certain .doc document in writer. - It first open the base window (title bar and status bar but no menus, icons, main window...), - then the conversion progress bar says conversion is occuring - then nothing (the doc doesn't open, the base window just stays here) Is there a way I could provide a more usable information (gdb ???) (on linux, but this is also tested on Windows and gives the same result) ? Notice that the doc in question is 4 Mb file, and is somehow confidential.
@alci: Can you pls. send to me the document by email? I will handle it confidential and check whether I can find some relation to other issues.
I've got the document with confidential contents from alci. I checked with "2.0.3RC5 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9036)]" and can confirm the problem. During 15 Minutes I had 99% processor load and unsystematically increasing and decreasing memory demand of 63 ... 165 MB. 15 Minutes after I tried to start the MICROSOFT WORD 9.0 (WORD 2000) document I terminated by WIN Task Manager. Also no success with other 2.0 versions. I also checked with "1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52 (Build 8824)]", what opened the document without problems (so I decided to rise priority). Also no problem to open the document with WORD 2000, BUT I was not able to edit the document: All functions in Edit menu greyed out, even "search", I can click ito the document where I want, focus and cursor will move to top of page 1 immediately (this problem does not exist for 1.1.4). So I believe that that document is damaged, and so it isn't only an OOo problem. All Problems remained, after I saved the document newly under new name with my WORD2000. I was able to open the document with 2.0 after I saved it as .rtf with WORD2000 After I saved the document with 1.1.4 as .doc, 2.0.3 was able to open that new document. I got a crash report (created with 680m113, 2.0.3 does not create crash reports reliably (issue ????) I also found out, that that document seems to contain some write protection (see above!), which is not respected by 1.1.4
The ID of the error report is r8tfvf (pls. see Additional comments from rainerbielefeld Mon Jun 5 01:34:10 -0700 2006!)
Please hand over the document to me, so that we can evaluate it here in development. It would be great to have a reproducable evironment of this crash report - it has already been submitted several times, but without a reproducable scenario. Thanks a lot! Send the document to mru@openoffice.org, please.
