Description ronnystandtke 2006-05-27 20:38:16 UTC
If you have a large address database and use the mail merge feature to
generate form letter files (output to disk) the GUI freezes during the
generation process. It looks like OOo crashed...
It would be better design to do this heavy stuff in another thread than the
display thread.

Try this databse as a backend for a serial letter. Then go to File -> Print...
Say "Yes" at the warning dialog, select File output and OK. OOo is frozen for
about 10 seconds on my machine (2,7 GHz). The missing response looks like a
crash.

i can confirm that such processes can take longer (in this special case i have
not waited 10, but over 5 sec.) - with such few data this is too long - while
testing this i noticed that serial letter in general (by creating etc.) can get
really slow => this should be improved or as the 'small' solution there should
come a corresponding info message

send further to the requirements team

It is still very slow but now I see at least a progress message, thanks.
