Description nostabo 2006-04-07 01:16:27 UTC
I have tried several methods of importing my spreadsheet data into a Base table
without any good results. The Base to Calc insertion via the Data Source
Explorer is great, but shouldn't this work both ways?

I understand the constraints of importing data into a database, but compatible
data sources should be simple to move data between. If there is a way to do this
I haven't found any help in the online help.

This might be a related issue to issue number 42464.
Comment 2 nostabo 2006-04-07 07:30:45 UTC
This is not exactly the same as issue 42464, because this issue involves Calc
and the Data Source Explorer. But any simple way to pass data between Calc and
Base would work for me.

It is simple.
1. Open the odb-file, might be a new one, and click on "Tables".
2. Open the spreatsheed, mark your data and copy them to the clipboard.
3. Goto the Base-document and paste them via Edit - Paste.

Follow the wizard. Make shure, that you set a primary key.

If your data contain dates, please ask on mailing list or forum for workaround
the plus-2-days bug.

thank you regina - that is exactly what i thought as i read this issue, but my
second thought was: why this feature is so hidden; so i send this feature
enhancement further to the 'requirements' team with the hint to improve the
usuabillity of this feature

I am following tutorial at
http://www.euclideanspace.com/software/information/relational/example/

to import data from weather application
http://www.heavyweather.info/new_english_us/index.html

Date is 06.08.2006 format ie DD.MM.YYYY as user defined.

I did do 500 records import by pasteing but
saw date 28.01.2006 later changed to something like 2.12.27 while trying to make
report of daily samples done hourly. The user definition is lost when I view /
edit table.
Date is also junked to some integer format in report.

I have 3899 records in spreadsheet from 6 month hourly data
but BASE crashes before paste completion on

Powerbook G4 running MAC OS X 10.4.7
OpenOffice.org 2.0.2
X11 1.1.1 - XFree86 4.4.0

I can make history file , exported text data, CALC spreadsheet and BASE database
available for testing. Most except partial 500 record BASE file (3.5 meg) are small.
I'll be getting MySql running again after restoring due to upgrade of TIGER in
January.
