Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6364
quickstarter won't release lock on folder after printing to file
Last modified: 2003-01-17 14:11:14 UTC
Here is how to reproduce this weird bug. 1. Open any one of the OO components with the quickstart enabled, let's say I opened OO Writer for argument's sake. 2. With the "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs" unselected (therefore I'm using the Windows' native file dialog), select file->print, and check the "print to file" option. 3. Select the Desktop as my destination, and create a new folder. 4. Save the print file under this new folder. 5. Close the document without saving. 6. Now try to move the newly-created folder to the recycle bin. An error message appears that says something like "sharing violation, the source or destination file may be in use". I won't be able to delete this folder unless I turn off the quickstarter. I confirmed this odd hehavior both in OO 1.0.0 and SO 6.0 final. It seems that this happens no matter which component is used. It occurred on me in Win2k, but I haven't confirmed it yet in other versions of Windows, so it may or may not happen in other Windows versions, but my gut feeling says it probably does (which in itself doesn't mean anything from debugging standpoint, I know ;). Can someone confirm this behavior?
Happens on XP, too. But it doesn't happen when "Use Star|OpenOffice.org dialogs" is switched on. As it happens on more than one module I think it's maybe a framework problem.
I am convinved that this is a Windows problem. I often (in other applications than OpenOffice.org) encounter this weird behaviour that the folder which has been most recently accessed in the system's file dialog is locked, until in the same application, the file dialog is invoked, again, and a document from another folder is loaded. (For instance, this permanently happens in my Microsoft Visual Studio.) This is a Windows operating system bug. Frank
