Description raindrops 2006-02-06 08:01:59 UTC
Provide printable summary of notes

Let user see all notes summarised in a single table, with the following columnar
structure:
1. Date/time
2. Author
3. Comments.
He should be able to print this table separately; or at the end of the main
document.

(The concept is similar to how COMMENTS are handled in MS Word)

See print options in Writer (Tools.Options.Writer.Print or File.Print.Options in
Writer document).

Closed.

I tried this out (selected the "notes only" option), but Page preview shows only
the document. Is it not supposed to show what is going to be printed (i.e, only
the notes, and NOT the main document)?

Ah, I understand, you desire a kind of view in the document / preview of the Notes.
Reassigned to requirements.

Duplicate of issue 767 and issue 1981.

*** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 1981 ***

Sorry, I do not see any similarities.

Issue 767 talks of adding an easier identification (e.g. page+line number).
This is complimentary (but NOT equivalent) to my suggestion.
My suggestion is NOT about identity of comment at all.

Issue 1981 is about exporting/importing the comments when converting OOo formats
from/to other "standard" formats (MS Office, etc.) I am not suggesting anything
like that. I am talking of operating within OOo, not interoperability between
OOo and other applications.

Therefore, reopening the issue.

Thanks.

I checked the URL and wiki page, and found that some items are still missing:

The Wiki page mentions "printing" only in passing, as "further thoughts".
However, it does not describe how the printing (or page preview) should be
implemented.

I am rephrasing my suggestion, so that it can be easily added to the wiki page
(or passed on to the developers who are working on this feature):

* Introduce a pane/view that lists all notes contained in the document in one
place. This list must have "author name", "insertion date" and "note" columns.
One suggestion is to add it to the bottom of the frame, just like how the
"gallery" pane attaches itself to the top of the frame.

* The notes should be displayed in page preview. The page preview should reflect
the selected print options. (currently it does not show notes at all).

For example, if the "notes at the end" option is selected, the page preview
should show extra pages containing notes. If the "notes only" option is
selected, it should show only the notes; but NOT the original text.

I'm writing "Notes2" to make this issue appear in a query.

I second this proposal -- to be able to print just the Notes. But I would also
like the option to selectively switch on or switch off the filename, date-time,
author options. I would also like to be able to export the Notes to another
file or append the Notes to an existing file containing just Notes.

Why do I want this? I am marking student papers on-screen for a distance-
learning subject (once called 'correspondence school' in another age). I would
like to collect all the comments on the marked assignments into one file to
determine what common issues are repeatedly encountered in order to modify the
learning materials and provide the students with a post-mortem of an assignment.

In case of note handling maybe some features from Adobe Acrobat 9 (Pro?) can be
adapted, regarding the note handling they got some nice ideas IMHO (see
attachments).
