Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 61552
Need toolbar button to enable/disable thousands separator in current cells
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
Excel has a toolbar button that can be used to change the number format of a cell to one that uses commas as thousand separators. OOo appears to lack such as toolbar button. This was one of the first complaints of a heavy spreadsheet user here who was trying to move over from Excel to Calc.

Instead of adding a new button, perhaps the format that is applied by the existing numeric format buttons could be customized. For instance, I'll never use the "standard" numeric format, but would love to be able to use that button to apply a customized format (eg. similar to comma format in Excel). Is it possible to add a feature so that the existing numeric format buttons can be customized?
@mackayr: try to use the cell styles (F11) for quick formatting to your needs
