In Solaris, any lines that have

echo REGEL X !!!!

in target.mk causes build to fail.

failed in SRC626, 1.43

a) Sander, you do the Solaris build, so I wonder whether you know the 
   solution to this problem

b) The next release is supposed to be 625. Don't expect 626 to run smooth...

I'm not sure why the echo command causes problem on Solaris.  Maybe the "!"
characters are being translated into something.

The solution is to remove the echo line.  Probably being added for debugging
purposes.

Are these commands (including echo) run by t/csh?

Yes, the whole build is on tcsh.  I've also set the SHELL variable manually,
since some of the script uses that variable explicitly and some tcsh doesn't set
the SHELL variable correctly.

I needed SRC626 because it has support for the new IDL compiler idlc replacing
old unoidl.
