Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 60076
Line text does not place
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:31:09 UTC
On Windows 2000, sometimes text placement on lines does not work. It is not a screen draw bug, because it does not go away if you refersh or scroll the problem off, then back onto, the page. To Recreate 1) Start Draw 2) Click on 'Line Tool' in the bottom bar 3) Draw a line, left to right 4) double click on the line and enter text (my favorite is the classic "jlk;j;"). 5) click off of the line somewhere, then right-click on the line for menu 6) select Edit Style... and go to the "Dimensioning" tab 7) Deselect 'Auto Vertical' and 'Auto Horizntal' 8) Using the 'Text Position' box, change the text location 9) hit 'OK'. Notice that the text does not actually move 99% of the time trying to do this. Reopening the style box, the settings that were there when 'OK' was pressed will still be there, they just have NO impact on how the line's text is actually displayed.
Created attachment 32927 [details] example of bug
confirmed on Windows XP Pro SP2 with OOo 2.0.1
The problem is that the dimensioning tab is only for dimension lines, not normal ones. If you open the lines and arrows box, select the dimension line and draw one, insert text, you will see that your changes are applied. For the text changing on a normal line like you used it please select the text and use the format/text/text tabpage.
Closed.
This is not a solution. Look, I read what was written, and I again _tried_ to get the text to move. If I right-click on a line in the example doc, and go to "Edit Style" it offers several tabs that _might_ be relevant. Changing things in the "Text" Tab has no effect on the line's text. Changing things in the "Dimensioning" Tab has no effect on the line's text. in order to _actually change_ anything, I have select the text, move the blinky bar to the end of the text (otherwise right-clicking selects text, and opens a spell check menu), and then right click. !!!THEN!!! when I _DO_ change the text-anchor in the "Text" tab (for example, selecting top center), the text moves to the WRONG palce (in this case, bottom-center). That much work, to change a text location, with so many blind ally's to go down does not WORKFORME.
I think that there are several bugs mixed in this area. But they do not have anything to do with your problem from the start of this discussion. There you simply tried to format something with a non fitting format dialog. Trying to anchor a lines text to another place with the format/text/text anchor dialog brings wrong results: true, this is a bug (I have written issue 60250 for this). Changing the anchoring of a lines text using the context menu/edit style/text/text anchor does not show any result though other object reflect the change: this is another bug. Description: open a new doc, insert a line with text. Select the line, right click, edit style, text, change the anchor point: nothign happens. But a newly draw line shows the changed anchor.
I do not thing that it is a bug, that the text position does not follow the change in the style. The line object seems to have got a hard formatting with text position 'centered'; the style "default" shows text position 'upper centered'. If you remove the hard formatting via Format > Default Formatting, the text follows the position of the style.
