Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 53743
Bitmap export should be possible in the filling/ background dialog
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:21:02 UTC
I imported a presentation from Powerpoint which contains my company's standard background. I would like to save that bitmap, fix a few things and then reimport it. Neither the Area/Bitmaps nor the Format/Page/Background has the option of saving the current background bitmap as a separate file. Format/Page/Background shows my bitmap. Area/Bitmaps does not show it. Area/Bitmaps has the option of storing the list of bitmaps in a .sob file, but this doesn't seem to be an otherwise useful file or file format.
You can just switch to the masterpage and export the background as a bitmap using File/Export.. Doesn't this fit your needs?
Thanks. That works, but it's incredibly non-obvious. There are two popup dialogs that deal with backgrounds. Format/Page/Background and Format/Area/Bitmaps. The latter allows you to import a bitmap. It would be logical to allow export of the bitmap here too. Having to select the picture on the page, then go to File/Export isn't at all obvious. At the very least this should be documented on the help pages for Format/Page/Background and Format/Area/Bitmaps.
Sorry, but we cannot document everything that can not be done somewhere in the Office. I change this issue to as feature wish for the ability to export directly from the filling dialog.
I agree, documenting "everything that can not be done" would be unreasonable. Documenting related operations should be a requirement. Having a popup that allows importing & setting a bitmap should have a "For writing a bitmap, see section xxx." comment. How else will all of us learn how easy Open Office is to use?
