Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 53736
increase the default drop down line count of list/combo boxes
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:42:44 UTC
A lot of list/combo boxes in OOo have a drop down line count (the number of visible rows when you "pop up" the list) of 5 - this is the VCL-level default. For examples, look at a nearly arbitrary list box in Tools|Options. On nowadays screens (and probably also on those from yesterday and the day before), this means that a list containing, say, 20 entries is displayed with 5 entries, occupying only 3 or so percent of the screen height, and forcing the user to scroll. It makes me sick (yeah, that could be only me) to see those tiny little lists, which arrogantly ignore all the miles of free space around them which they could use, too. They force me to scroll through this little list, instead of offering all entries at once, making selection of the desired entry much faster this way. We should increase the VCL-side default for this drop down line count to something more reasonable, at least 10, better 20.
We can do that, alas it will not help much. The size of the dropdowns comes directly out of the resources, so 99 percent of all dropdowns in the office are not affected at all by whatever default entry count vcl reserves in its non-ResId constructors.
