Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 53705
Insert file adds an extra page break for MSWord files
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:44:44 UTC
When inserting an MSWord file into a text document, a page break is added before the inserted content. When inserting an equivalent ODT file, no page break is added. Steps to reproduce: - Create a new text document. - Type something in the first line (e.g. "line 1") - Position the cursor at the end of the document (e.g. at the beginning of an empty second line). - Insert an MSWord document (e.g. attachement1.doc, attached). --> A page break is added before the content of the inserted document. For an equivalent ODT file (e.g. attachement1.odt, attached), a page break is not added.
Created attachment 29012 [details] A sample MSWord file.
Created attachment 29013 [details] An ODT version of attachment1 [details].
confirmed on windows 2000 with m125 (with a crash when I tried to undo the inseriton of a word file)
The cannot be solved in a better way. The Word document has a different page format, thus a new page style must be created for it when it will be inserted. Even when pages in the Word file have the same format, there are too many differencies in describing the page formats in Word & Writer file format, so that there will ALWAYS be created a new page style when inserting Word documents.
Closed.
If I can convert the file to odt and then insert it (without a page break), why isn't it possible to do so directly (at least optionally)?
I see the problem, this is quite inconsistent behaviour. Reopening issue.
MRU->OS: this is really inconsistent behaviour. When You add content via Insert.File the page style will be taken in mind when the source is a .doc file. When adding content from an .odt the page style will not be taken in mind though it is different.
Problem still exists in OOo 3.3.
Same problem exists with globaldocuments. I tried to use OOO330m20 (Build:9567) to use a globaldocument do put a book together, consisting of 130 files created in rich text format. Each file is a subchapter of a chapter. Each file is put on a separate page and not attached to the cursor position as described in documentation. This makes the globaldocument useless for collecting different sources to one large document.
