Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 53690
Confusing spelling of "Matte"
Last modified: 2023-08-22 10:02:50 UTC
"Matte" is confusingly spelled "matt" in the surface menu of the 3D-settings toolbar; this may be confusing to MS-Office users.
Hello, which language version are you using? Thanks in advance.
I'm using the United States English version. Now I'm confusing you, hmm!?
Yes, you did ;-) Now I have it. Reproducible. Reassigned.
Thanks for info, removed 'needmoreinfo' tag. Andrew
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
We use en-US in our Source, what is the correct spelling?
American Heritage Dictionary mentions: "" matte 1 (măt) n. 1. Variant of mat2. 2. a. An opaque border or pattern placed between a source of light and a photosensitive surface to prevent exposure of specified portions of the surface. b. A map specifying how two electronic images of the same size and shape are to be cropped for combination into a single image. 3. A kind of paint that dries to a dull finish. adj. also mat Having a dull finish. ________________________________________________________________________ The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fifth Edition copyright ©2022 by HarperCollins Publishers. All rights reserved. "" So if we are using en-us we probably should use "matte", however opinions are divided about the use of "mat" and "matt" as I read some lookups on the subject. So all three versions are OK to use, but "matte" seems the better to write. Pronouncing mostly always converts to "mat" (măt)
Hi Dick, Thank you for your input! At the moment we use "Matt" in en-US: https://github.com/apache/openoffice/blob/trunk/main/svx/source/tbxctrls/extrusioncontrols.src#L534 And "Matt" for en-GB: https://translate.apache.org/en_GB/aoo40/translate/svx/source/tbxctrls.po#unit=14363689 I think we could then change en-US to "Matte"? Opinions are welcome!
