Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 52978
Opening large powerpoint file crashes m122
Last modified: 2005-08-09 08:57:51 UTC
Hi, I have a problem opening a fairly large 23Mb powerpoint file that systematically causes OOo m122 to crash. The file begins to be opened, the progress bar advances to about 50%, and then nothing happens for about 2 and a half minutes, during which time the CPU occupation hits 99%. In the end, OOo terminates with no error message. The crash reporter is not loaded at next startup. The file contains JPEGs, WMFs and Excel embedded sheets. I can not submit the file for scrutiny as I'm a patent attorney and the file is a client submission protected by rules of secrecy of my profession. The exact same file opens in approx. 25 seconds with OOo 1.1.4 Alex
setting crash and oooqa keywords as a member of qa
upping priority to P2 as it crashes OOo in relation to basic functionality
Is it possible to upload the presentation somewhere so I can take a look at it? Attaching wont work because of the size. Thanks in advance.
Hi wg, Unfortunately, and as I have been discussing on the qa list, the file was given to me by one of my clients, and relates to a patent application I am drafting. The information therein falls under my professional obligations of confidentiality as a patent attorney, and so I can not make this file available, at least not without some form of confidentiality agreement that would involve my client and Sun.
Thanks for your reply. Large files in general work fine, I have tested this here. So if there is no way of getting the file here or, at least a similar or stripped off file with the same behaviour I'm sure there is nothing we can do about. I will close this issue as works for me. If you find a way of reproducing this with another file please feel free to reopen this issue and attach the file. Thanks for your help.
Closed.
Hiwg, The issue isn't about the fact that the file is large, it is about the fact that this file causes my OOo m122 to die without warning, without loading the document, and without causing the crash report wizard and recovery tool to be invoked. Something in the file is causing the problem, it may be one of the following : - embedded Excel graphs - a particular type of image file (JPEG, WMF, since both of these are present) - odd fonts or fonts that are not installed on my machine - vector drawing shapes made within PP I'm going to investigate.
