Description Unknown 2002-05-27 00:55:42 UTC
Hello, I just started using OpenOffice a couple days ago. I just registered
with you as a member today. I noticed that in OpenWriter, the word CLOSE,
under the word FILE, will terminate the whole program. I just wanted to close
the current document. It's pretty frustrating because normally, Close is used
to close a doc, and EXIT is for closing the whole program. Maybe this is a
setting that I can change, but if not, then I've just contributed a bug for you
to solve.
Write back to me if I'm in error.
Thanks, Eddie Colon

This is a duplicate of issue 4650

Some remarks: This doesn't only apply to the wordprocessor -> wrong
component
Use subcomponent code if you can point to a source-code function/file
that is responsible for the bug - otherwise use ui. Thanks.

I don't understand the explanation you guys sent me. I asked for
someone to explain it in laymean's terms but nobody answered. I told
you guys that if I have two documents in OpenOffice Writer open at the
same time , and I close one of them. the whole program closes. I just
want to close one, and continue with the other. You can do this with
any other WP program. Don't tell me my issue is closed, just tell me
if you know about this, and if you can correct it. Thank you.

See issues 4650 (klick on the reference).
An RFE (request for enhancement) has been filed as isse 4537

File->Close shuts down OpenOffice.org (exits the whole program)

To make it short: This has already been reported, so this one is a
duplicate. It doesn't make sense to discuss issues at several places,
instead you mark duplicates as such and refer to the original issue.

So for you open issue 4573 and read through the comments that were
posted there and add yours there.

If you really got two different documents open and File->close really
closes all documents and exit OO.o (which I doubt) than reopen this
issue, give it a more descriptive summary and give a detailed
step-by-step instruction on how to reproduce the problem.

Code is only suitable if you can name a source-code file or something.

Sorry, wrong issue numbers:
issue 4650 and issue 4537 are the correct ones.

Eddie, I understand your frustration. I also posted an issue regarding this feature back when the issue numbers were still in the 1000 range :).

However, when multiple documents are open and I click on File | Close, closing one document did not close the entire application.

Unable to duplicate issue on Solaris 8, OO 1.0, CDE with latest Solaris and J2SE patches.

Will check on Linux platform later.

Unable to duplicate issue on RedHat 7.3, OO 1.0, Gnome.

cloph->P M: I don't know why you reopend this duplicate, I think it's
best to close this one (duplicate to issue 4650 - RFE see issue 4537)
Comment 9 lohmaier 2002-09-20 23:07:43 UTC
marking as duplicate again. See issue 4537 for a detailed discussion
and add your comments/votes there.
If this issue doesn't have anything to do with your problem, please
reopen this one again (or create a new one), give it a better summary
and a detailed description of what you expect OOo to do and what it
actually does. But I'm convinced that issue 4537 will adress your problem.
