Description klowe 2002-05-18 11:49:21 UTC
During the installation process, while registering the components, an error
message was displayed: "The 'ucpchelp1.dll' component was unable to be
registered.", so selected ignore option to complete. However, it is not
possible to use the Help Contents. Therefore, ran setup and selected repair
option, and encountered the same difficulty.

If i try to install SO 6 on a fresh an clean Win95 OSR 2.1 it says
ucpchelp1.dll can not be registered.

I already installed DCOM an IE 4 an IE 5 with no luck.

Has anyone a solution to this problem. This is very urgent.

If it affects OO1 it will also affect SO6 as fundamentally they are
the same.

Think now Sun are actually selling it they had better come up with a
fix soon!

I found the error. It is an old msvcrt.dll from win95. I already
informed German support dep.

I installed on a Win95 B machine today and got this same error.
Installation of a new msvcrt.dll solved the problem.

To install the new msvcrt.dll file, I downloaded the VCRedist.exe
patch from:

   http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q259403

and installed it.

Hi Olli,
I've tried with a Win95A with DCOM95 update an a new msvcrt.dll. With
OOo 1.0.0 I can reproduce this problem. With inhouse build 8044 I
can't. Is this something that can reach 1.0.1?

I change to new.

I had success with win95B by:

1. Downloading and installing the MS libraries update here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q197298
2. Rebooting
3. Running the OO setup and choosing repair.

Some people are still having issues though but its worth a try.

Kind Regards

Cameron

reassigning to dirk - I don't think Oliver will work on these issues any more.

*** Reply received from an email to Andreas, who is currently
assigned to this problem. I have asked for further clarification,
which I will post on receiving a reply. ***

Hello *,
this issue is already solved in StarOffice. The reason is, that the
build environenment links the libdb32.dll ( or STLport ), which is
used by the help system, against a win-system library msvcirt.dll,
which, under win95 does not contain at least the "cerr"-symbol. So,
the help is not able to register.
The currently most favoured solution I know for you is update of this
library. ( Also, newer versions of OpenOffice should not contain this
error ).
