Difficult to use different image as background for different slide. 
in Powerpoint we can easy use different background image for different slide. 
but it is difficult to impossible in Impress

Do you mean under Format/page/background? If so then this is more a feature than
a defect.

Yes. Thanks for correcting it. 
so we can use any image such as gif or jpeg, etc as background and it can also 
automatically resize to the page size.
