Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 48027
Add/Delete Decimal Place Button broken for Scientific Number Format
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
When selecting a cell with scientific number format the Buttons "Number Format: Add Decimal Place" and "Number Format: Delete Decimal Place" have no effect.
Hi, this is not a bug. Decimal places in scientific formats do not have relevant effects. Nevertheless I re-assign this to the requirements team as an enhancement request. Frank
No relevant effect? Scientific formats in printf have a configurable number of digits since the 70s for good reasons. 1e6 is in many cases a lot more readable than 1.00000000001e6 Also it is a user interface deficiency if an enabled button that the user expects to do something shows no action when pressed. At the very least the button should be disabled if a scientific number cell is selected. But it is far better if the button behaves the same for all content for that the action is well defined.
Just verified that the inconsistency persists in 2.4.0: The add/remove decimal places buttons are active but have not effect.
