Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 45923
Export to Powerpoint causes problems with Notes View
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:20:06 UTC
Previously when I exported Impress presentations to Powerpoint and printed out or viewed the presention in a Notes view, I had no issues. In the beta version the presentation is blank and there are no notes (eventhough there is). I've tried the printing of the Powerpoint at home on a Panasonic Toughbook laptop to a HP4, and at both works: desktop to HP 1300 and laptop to HP-something (don't remember the printer number).
Reassigned.
I also noticed this issue. I attach a very simple presentation where the issue shows itself. Steps: - open the attached .odp presentation, and save it as a .ppt file. - open the .ppt file, either with Impress or with MS PowerPoint, and go to the notes view. When I do that, the notes page does not show the slide.

I still have the same problem I commented with the bugdoc notes.odp attached to this issue. I am using version 1.9.109 in Windows XP. This issue should be reopened.
I can also reproduce the bug again.
I can reproduce the bug. There are more then 1 preview object in the notesview. When I delete all preview objects, assign the notes layout again before saving everything works ok. Please have a look why there are more the 1 preview object.
I have this bug. FWIW I get around it by opening the ppt presentation in Impress, select notes view, select all slides and finally, in Task Pane... Layouts, I select the Notes Layout. This works immediately but it also is preserved when I close and re-open the ppt file provided that it is not re-saved. Don't know if this will help!!
I am seeing the same exact thing in the 2.0.2 release on RH ES 4. The temporary fix noted by oorwullie works for me, too. Thanks.
Hi, I can confirm that I still get this problem when using Openoffice 2.3 and Powerpoint 2003. I also think the OS should be changed as the problem occurs whether I save the slides as a .ppt on Windows or Linux. I've been getting this for some time and it is really frustrating. What is the reasoning behind the OOOLater tag on this? I think this is a serious bug that limits my ability to use OOO and to get other people using OOO at my place of work. A big thanks to oorwullie for the tip - it will save me a lot of time manually correcting the documents! Regards, Steve.
Definitely seeing this problem as well, losing "speaker notes" slide images when exporting to ppt. Using OOo 2.2, and is unfortunately hindering the OOo adoption campaign at my place of work.
If this is a priority P3, I don't think the target should be "OOo Later". This is now about 30 months old, please escalate the target milestone!
I'm having what's probably a duplicate of this, only I disagree with the way the issue has been assigned to a sub-component. I think it's actually between reading the ppt file and displaying the internal representation. I have: - OpenOffice 2.4.0 - MacOs 10.5.2 on a MacBook 4.1 - no obvious shortage of memory or disk space - a presentation that has always been in PowerPoint - a slide where, in Normal view, I can see the contents of the slide - in notes view, I see the notes, but only a box around where the contents should be I have edited the master view of the notes page. I have done other poorly characterised edits of the same file. My example is slide 2 of a zipped presentation which I will attach. I know from experience of this fault in OpenOffice 2.3 that at least one version of M$ powerpoint (sorry, I don't know which one) will display and print the slide the same way, but if you export in Word format, the graphics and notes are both in the Word document. This is may reason for disagreeing with the classification to a subcomponent.

I spent a lot of tim etrying to sort out this bug. My observations: This bug can be found in Ooo 1.x 2.x and now 3beta (unfortunately...). As far as the file is saved in Ooo format (whatever, as versions changed): no pbm. When saved as ppt file, Notes pages are altered. It tends to be that the active page is not affected. Some pages are not affected elsewher (I have not found the cause). Alteration: the Slide image is replaced with a blank rectangle, which is roughly at the original place. Sometimes, the blank rectangle is a zero pixel width rectangle, located oustide of the Page (generally on the left). It is very tall (I do not know how many picels) and thus look like a vertical line. The altered pages are the same if viewed by Ooo or MSPP. Ooo can correct if all slides are selected and default format is chosen (as described somewhere else). But the blank rectangles stay. Actually, if different "save as ppt" operations are made, the pages accumulate different blank rectangles, which, funily, do not have the same dimensions. If a ppt file has been corrected with ooo using the previously mentionned trick, the concerned slides/pages seem to stay stable for a while. But newly created pages will be latered on later saving. I hope such bug can get a real treatment, after two versions changes, as failing so obviously to Export in MS format is the typical thing that makes people reject Ooo.
In some sense, it is solved. IBM/LOTUS Symphony 1 solved the issue, as well as others (we can include tables, without opening the spreadsheet etc...) Time to switch to something else, maybe...
I'm on a Mac. That option doesn't work for me.
See issue 71329 for a variation on this problem: when files are created in Powerpoint, there is a problem showing the slides on the notes pages. I have this problem in 2.4.1. In an older version, reapplying the layout to the notes page used to fix the problem temporarily (it broke again the next time the document was saved). However, in 2.4.1, reapplying the layout to the notes page makes the slide appear off the top left of the page and full size. I can drag the slide down to the page, but I cannot resize it. It appears bigger than the page and covers the notes, so there is now no useful workaround and Impress is useless to me. Back to Powerpoint for me.
This might help: changing the page (paper) size for the notes pages makes the slide appear aligned to the top left of the page instead of way off to the top right of the screen. The slide is still too big, though, and is stretched into a portrait orientation instead of landscape (as if mimicking the orientation of the notes page in which it is embedded).
I'm on OpenOffice 3.1, and this bug is really annoying me. Sorry for the bad english, I'm french! It happens when I open a .ppt file with Impress. Even if I save it to OpenDocument format, I can't view the slide in note view. I am on Linux Mint , latest stable release, with the latest release of OpenOffice (3.1). I'm back on Powerpoint on wine for now...
cl->sj: looks like the wrong slide placeholder shape is created?
