Description Unknown 2002-05-05 16:18:44 UTC
Can someone please explain the poor appearance of the application fonts in Open
Office on a Linux machine. That is, the fonts used in the application itself
(menus, dialogs, status bars etc etc) not in documents spreadsheets etc. Fonts
look fine in other applications but NOT in Open Office. I am using Redhat 7.2
Gnome

Please take a look at the screenshots at issue 3798 if this
is the same problem.
Comment 2 Unknown 2002-05-08 13:27:12 UTC
This would appear to be the same/similar issue to 3789. I seem to
remember that the final release prior to the final (642?) also had
poor font clarity.

Have you checked the behavior with font sizes >= 16? I'd
suggest if your problem does not appear for those bigger
fonts we'll have a point to say 'yes it is the same'.
If yes: What's you're version of X, glibc, gcc and where did
you get your tt fonts from?

If not: Your description does not reveal to much of what you
want to say...

(typo: it's 3798 and not 3789)

The issue is that if I install a standard Red Hat Linux 7.2
installation with X, Gnome and Open Office 1.0 the application fonts
are poor. I am not getting fonts from anywhere other that what is
supplied from either the Linux distribution or Open Office. Once
again, I am talking about the fonts as used in the application's
interface and NOT in the documents, spreadsheets etc that are created
by the application. I am led to believe that the font of the
application is "embedded/part" of Open Office application and
therefore it is not customizable.

If you happen to have the font file soui.ttf from one of the previous
OO releases, or possibly the StarOffice 6.0 beta, use spadmin to add
that font to OpenOffice. This font provides the Andale Sans UI.

Without any detailed description nor screenshot, just complaining I
can't do anything for you.
Make sure you have read the "Font Problem Trouble Shooting" guide:
