Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 44769
MS-Word document created using template does not render correctly in OpenOffice
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
I have a Microsoft Word document that was created using a template. I can open it in OpenOffice 1.1.2. However, it is not rendered correctly. The title appears and the last line, "Director of Financial Aid" appears. But nothing between those two appears, aside from the current date. When I use antiword on this document, I can see the full text without problem. But the entire body is missing in OpenOffice. I also see a smaller empty rectangle (about 4 inches wide by 1 inch tall) in the lower left of the document. The smaller rectangle is similar to the light rectangular outline for the full page. When I print, I see the same text (and missing body), but without the two rectangular outlines. I will upload the file when I see a field for attachments. - Gene
Created attachment 23676 [details] This was created in MS-Word. antiword displays the full text. OO omits the body.
It is a missing feature in Writer. Word uses a "Autotext" field here. Aright click on this gives you a context menu where you can select the desired Autotext to insert in text. This is currently not supported by Writer. MRU->AMA: please assign to appropriate DEV member, so that this may be implemented in Writer for post-2.0 era. Thanks!
This bug can be closed as resolved/fixed. Checked with ms office 2003 / OOo3.1 no differences found in display of .doc
