Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 44376
add option to turn shadow color transition in toolbars off
Last modified: 2013-02-07 21:53:10 UTC
In short. The shadow color transition (shadings) of the toolbars is really very very ugly. The "look" is bad a "feel" is even worse... In the combination with thick and funny-like (but not elegant) colorfull icons and based on the simple grey background the toolbars looks really very very bad. I do not know but not all people are already demented beigns requiring "fun" every moment of their lives... So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, be so kind and create at least an option to turn this shadow color transition OFF, otherwise I personally will have a HUGE mental problem to use it every day. Or change the whole UI back to current OO look and feel (or at least make an option), it might make a lot of traditional people VERY VERY happy... Thank you VERY VERY MUCH. P.S. I really love OpenOffice and I am using it every day, but this UI is really too much for me. I hope you understand me correctly not as an offence, but as a desperate scream of a happy user...
defect -> enhancement reporter is requesting an option to turn shadow color transition off
SBA: reassigned to CJ.
Well, I would better say "add an option to retain the look and feel of the current OO UI" So it means basically - shadow color transition off - darker grey menu/toolsbars background on - thick colorfull icons off OO 2.0 beta has just too much contrast for eyes to look at for a longer time. Darker menu/toolbars background and less colorfull, more elegant icons make big difference in user experience when I am working now with current and new OO.. Than you.
CJ: If we add an option it will only be available for Unix. Goal is to support the native Look and Feel of Windows, GNOME & KDE.
"native look" of windows? Or do you mean "default look"? For everyone who is not using a bright windows-colorscheme, the current toolbars do *not* correspont to the native look of my desktop. That is the whole point why i find the toolbar-gradients so disgusting on my windows desktop: because they do *not* fit into the native look of it. Or is openoffice 2.0 only for people who leave the windows-colorscheme at the default? If yes, then it is not for me. In case you dont understand the problem (after it has been mentioned in numerous issues) - just open the windows display properties, and switch to a dark colorscheme (this means dark background, bright foreground) and then launch openoffice 2.0
