Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 43614
"External Programs" missing from Options
Last modified: 2005-03-24 15:39:18 UTC
Windows 98SE: going to Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org... there is no listing for "External Programs". Wasn't certain if this was ui or framework, so apologies if issue has been misplaced.
This occurs in OpenOffice.org Beta 2.0 vers. 1.9.7.9, Windows 98SE
Confirm that "External Programs" is not present under Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org with OpenOffice.org Beta 2.0 vers. 1.9.7.9, Windows 98SE OpenOffice.org Beta 2.0 vers. 1.9.7.9, Windows 2000 OpenOffice.org Beta 2.0 vers. 1.9.7.9, Windows Linux Regards Gordon
Help for "External Programs" OpenOffice.org Beta 2.0 also misplaced Expected location in Help - OpenOffice.org Help: options; tools - OpenOffice.org - External Programs Actual location in Help - OpenOffice.org Help: e-mail attachments - Related Topics - External Programs
Hi, i'd say that Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org>External Programs has been removed and relevant options can now be set in Tools>Options>Internet. Therefore i would close this issue if it's ok for you. Max
Hi, Tools>Options>Internet doesn't solve the problem as an email client cannot be set from here. It would also require that existing users are informed of that change (if it is made). The main issue is that the options previously available under the External Programs are not there so Oo.o will not be able to find a working email configuration. This affects the "Send..." item in the File menu.
>> ..as an email client cannot be set from here but you can choose the executable from your file system. So it is possible.
Hi Max, I don't really understand what you mean by what you said (which means that someone is going to have to explain it)... I think you mean that if I use a file manager (like Windows Explorer) I can email a file from there. But please remember, I'm a user and not a developer. So, as a user, I'm saying again that if the functionality of the program is going to be changed then it needs to be clear. To users. The previous functionality to link to an email program through OpenOffice.org is not there; there's no reason why it should have been removed. I could do it before and I don't see why I shouldn't be able to do it now. If OO.o doesn't link to any email program from within itself then why have the "Send" item in the File menu? I have no idea of how hard this is... and I have supported this project since Star Office 5.2... but I can't see why something that's pretty much standard has disappeared.
So, even if the option isn't there, what is it that you can't do?
I can't attach a document as an email from within Openoffice.org anymore. There's a menu item that states that it should be able to do this: File>Send>Document as Email. But as it's impossible to set an external email client, it won't be able to do this. An email client cannot be set because Tools>Options>External Programs is not there. So either that menu item should be removed and users are advised that if they want to send a document they'll have to start up their email clients or the External Programs functionality is reinstated/fixed. Otherwise people will think that the program is broken in that area when they try to use it. Like I did :)
This issue still occurs in Openoffice.org 1.9m84, Windows 98SE.
I don't think it's an issue but a user error. Let's see what the framwork says...
atr: Works as disigned. Now this tabpage isn't necessary, because this adjustment is done by the systemintegration of OOo2.0. For example, OOo2.0 uses the standard system email program at windows or the default file manager at linux.
I've just tried it again though... it really doesn't work. I'm using Foxmail as an email client and this has been set as my default email client through the Control Panel's Internet Options (Win98SE). OO.o keeps saying "OpenOffice.org was unable to find a working email configuration. Please save this document locally instead and attach it from within your e-mail client". Do I need to send a screenshot to prove this?
atr->cmwamba1: OOo supports only MAPI compliant email clients on Windows, and it seems to be that foxmail doesn't use this standard mail interface. So this is not a bug in OOo. You can check this if you try to send a document with wordpad, you get also a error message.
Thanks for that, I thought it was me... I have a decent explanation now, which is something I'd never have gotten with MS Word! Cheers, Corey
