Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 41717
Paragraph Style Dropdown should show preview in Format Toolbar of Writer and Calc
Last modified: 2013-12-22 08:14:25 UTC
When clicking on style dropdown, a preview of that style should be displayed. This helps in making it clear to the user what the style will look like when the formatting is applied
Created attachment 22034 [details] Styles dropdown should show a preview of styles in use
MRU->ES: already planned to implement?
ES: Yep! See: http://specs.openoffice.org/writer/formatting/Assigning_Styles_in_Writer.sxw 7.2. Future Tasks ->FL: Consider this please as the "Task for this future task"
FYI: issue for preview in stylist itself: issue 28781 and issue 28936 issue 28936 has a nice mockup of how preview in the stylist could be done in the UI (has a mockup of the style-dropdown as well).

I agree. As we have a font preview for selected font (preview can be activated in menu 'Tools -> Options -> OO -> View - Font List', AOO needs a preview for the selected paragraph style in the related dropdown. Such a preview is available in WORD, LibO 4, Calligra, but not in SoftMaker FreeOffice. I think the current dropdown without preview is anachronistic. Most important for Write, but also necessary for Calc.
(a) Already reproducible with Pre-3.4.0 (OOo 2.0.2), probably OO never had that feature, but because of crippled Version selector (Bug 123063) no useful info can be contributed
