Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4112
Cannot get spell check to use en_CA dictionary files
Last modified: 2002-06-04 14:47:57 UTC
OOo641d on Win2000 with SP2 I downloaded the en_CA dictionary zip and unzipped into user/wordbook I added the line to the .lst file as directed DICT en CA en_CA In Options/language settings/writing aids/edit there is no spell checking available with CA (ie. no ABC checkmark in front of "English (Canada)" ) I tried commenting out the existing (en_US) line - no effect In the end I copied the en_CA files over the top of the en_US files and left the language selected as English(US). But that did NOT work. This is Similar to Issue#:2671 but with the Canadian Dictionary.
Hi, Spell checking in en_CA works for me. Please follow the direction at: http://whiteboard.openoffice.org/linugcomponent/download_dictionary.html Please also check a few things: 1. in user/wordbook/ look to make sure all of the following files are present: en_CA.aff en_CA.dic dictionary.lst 2. Make sure dictionary.lst has the following line in it *followed by a blank line* (this has been fixed for OOo 1.0) DICT en CA en_CA 3. Then shutdown *both* OOo and QuickStarter and then restart them 4. Go to Tools->Options->LanguageSettings->WritingAids and hit the "Edit" button 5. Use the pull down menu to select the language English(Canada) 6. Then check the box beside the MySpellSpellchecker 7. Say OK and exit out. From now on the spell checking in English Canda ia enabled. That does not mean your documents are written in English (Canada) unless you use the OOo menus to change your default language to English(Canada). Under OOo every character can have its own language! If you try this exact sequence and you still have problems, then please send me as attachments 1. a screen capture of the Tools->Options->LanguageSettings->WritingAids->Edit screen showing MySpell checked and English(Canada) 2. A screen capture of File Explorer showing the contents of user/wordbook/ 3. your dictionary.lst file Then I will double chcek each of those. We are working on a dictionary installer program that will amek this alot easier. We hope to heave it ready in time for OOo 1.0 or shortly thereafter. Hope this helps, Kevin
It worked! Thank you! Item # 3 was an issue. (and is not on the download_dictionary.html page) And item #4 - #7 seem to make more sense the way you wrote it in here. I couldn't understand how to "enable it", a second time (editing the dictionary.lst file was in my mind the first time). Having screen shots would have helped me. Originally I thought that, w/o RTFM, all I had to do was set the default language for the Document and the spellcheck to EN_canada. That dictionary installer program would sure help. Thank you very much!
