Description faber 2002-04-16 22:36:26 UTC
clicking on the main menu on an openoffice document window floating on a
secondary screen in a multi monitor setup causes the menu to pop up on the
primary screen on the edge thats close to the secondary screen.

encountered on windows 2000 but presumably applies to all multi monitor capable
windows versions (i.e. win98, winme, win2000 and winxp)

guess: the code is probably trying not to put menus out of the visible area.

This behaviour also applies to drop down windows of combo boxes
(select font family or size for example) or any drop down box on any
dialog that unfortunately happens to be on the secondary screen. I
did not encounter any of these popup windows on the same screen where
their parent window lives if that parent window is on the secondary
screen.

This is not an issue in OpenOffice!
The problem is that even system dialogs on the available space are
centered under the edge with multi-monitor setup.
Example: First start of the I.E. the dialogue for Internet setup.
Do you know software, which behaves differently? Please call it me,
then I will forward it to our development.
Regards Uwe

I am not talking about dialogs appearing on the wrong screen ( i
would have to verify that), i am talking about Menus.

e.g. the openoffice writer main window is on the secondary screen.
I click on "File" in the main menu. the pull-down menu which has the
entries "New/Open/Save/Save as..." etc opens on the primary screen.

Any other windows software behaves differently.. including notepad
Ms office or Internet Explorer.

Or, click on the "down arrow" near the font selection combo box on
the open office main window. the list of fonts appears always on the
primary screen, even if the main window resides on the secondary
screen. This applies to all drop down lists on all dialogs. These
lists should appear right below their combo box position and not on a
different screen.

I was refering to the menus and drop down lists as "windows", because
technically they are, at least on a windows platform.

I cannot reproduce your problem under Win2000 but it is reproducible
under Win98 on the same PC.
My used Grafic card is a Matrox Millenium G450 DualHead. Biosversion
1,2,021, Driver version 5.12.01.1210.

Please give me more information.
Is your setting in this issue for OS (Win2000) correct or wich
operating system is used?
Which Grafic card is used? Which driver version? Did you change the
standard settings?

Hi,

the problem really is that those windows are tried to position on
visible coordinates, but unfortunately I forgot to include additional
monitors into the calculation.

Strange, this bug was reported 4 times on a single day from different
people - I'll check if we can take this one into the next build.

Anyway, its a duplicate....
