Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 39593
Table drawn in wrong column of columned section under certain circumstances
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
I've confirmed this behaviour with 1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 1.1.4 in OSX X11, NeoOffice/J, and Win98 (in Virtual PC) respectively: i) in a blank Writer doc, create 2 sections. ii) make the 2nd section 2-column (or more). iii) insert a table in the 2nd (multi-columned) section. The table should appear in the 1st column, wrapping into subsequent column(s) if the table has enough rows. What actually happens, though - if you fail first to uncheck 'Evenly distribute contents to all columns' in the section-columns dialog *before* inserting the table - is that the table is drawn into the last column in the section. Once there, unckecking that checkbox will make no difference. You then have to delete the table and start again with the checkbox. The behaviour I would expect if that checkbox is checked is for the table rows to be evenly distributed over the columns in the section. Perhaps that's too complex to bring about, but the current behaviour is definitely wrong.
MRU->FME: Inserting a table into a multi-column section initially works fine (when having "content evenly distributed". But when adding rows to the table, the whole table jumps into the left column.
FWIW - what mru says: "Inserting a table into a multi-column section initially works fine (when having 'content evenly distributed')" is only true if that multi-columned section is not preceded by another section. If it is, then the inserted table begins in the far-right column of the first page, and then appears normally in all the columns of following pages (if it has enough rows to go that far). Also note that table creation in a columned section with 'content evenly distributed' is flaky - e.g. in a 3-columned section, inserting a 5-col by 20-row table makes a 22-row table instead. Then adding rows to this existing table throws the table cells in adjacent cols out of line with each other vertically, too. And occasionally, adding rows to the table will bump them into cols on the next page, instead of lengthening the ones on the first page. Should I post these items as separate issues, or is this all part of the same thing?
