Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 36205
Add a separate page number/count for each page-style
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:32:29 UTC
It would be very useful to have a separate page number/count accessible for each page-style in the document. This would enable something like: Footer of Page 1 (using page style 1): "page 1 of 1" Footer of Page 2 (using page style 2): "page 1 of 2" Footer of Page 3 (using page style 2): "page 2 of 2" Footer of Page 4 (using page style 3): "page 1 of 2" Footer of Page 5 (using page style 3): "page 2 of 2"
reassigned to BH. Seperate page numbers can be reached by inserting a page break with new number. Seperate counting is not available at all.
Yes I am aware that you can restart the page numbers. I would prefer a more "coherent" solution. It would be a little odd to have the page count be handled through the page-style and the page numbering be handled through a page break. Then again it might be possible to handle both through a page break which resets both the numbering and the total count.
It is difficult and not evident to find out how to change the number of a page, and it's even more if the page begins with a table! In this specific case, there's no way to insert a page break in the first paragraph (as it's inside of the table, and the page break is grayed). You need to (1) insert a paragraph before the table, (2) modify this paragraph to insert the break, to be coherent with the help system saying that the page number is the property of its first paragraph, and then (3) you must delete this new paragraph (!!!) (I would expect the numbering to revert to default, as the object that bears the property is deleted, but it's not like that! The page still stays numbered like I want). How do you expect to explain this to a user? It's alltogether strange to see that the numbering is linked to "page styles". It should be linked to either page break alone, or to something like document section (to be more consistent and visible in the document schema). In the case of the section, it would be its property like "Start this section's page numbering from...".
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
