Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 34262
New MailMerge: Saving started document works not spec related.
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:22:18 UTC
Saving started document should be saved without merged fields. Here is a part of the related spec from number: 6.9.1 - Step8 - Save starting document. "This option (Figure 31) allows users to save the initially created document containing text & merge fields. Clicking 'Save Starting Document' opens a file picker point to “my documentsâ€. The most current OpenOffice Writer Format shall be preselected & the file name text edit shall be filled with the document name. When saved the starting document shall contain fields & database connection settings."

At the point where the document is saved it is not possible to detect which of the database fields have to be reset and to which content they should be reset. Some of the fields may have had content before the wizard started.
Ok
HI->CJ: In cause of last comment of OS. the spec should be modified again.
The spec says that the place holders (fields) and the connection has to be saved. Please explain more in detail why we should not save the fields and where the advantage for the user is not to do such.
HI->CJ: My started document contents database fields like <FIRSTNAME> <LASTNAME> etc. When I use this document next time, I get the fields already filled with the first entry of the database which was used before. But what I expect is to get my started document without filled database fields.
CJ->OS: I agree to Hasan, I expect the same. This is something we should fix in OO.o 3.0. I'll going to change the spec, I'll add a remark, that we'll fix this later.
Changed target to OO.o later
